Painful Loss – Ghana Minority Leader Mourns Christian Atsu’s Death in Earthquake

.On February 6, 2022, a massive earthquake struck Turkey and northern parts of Syria, claiming the lives of thousands of people, including Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu. The sudden and tragic passing of Atsu has left the Ghanaian community and football fans across the world in mourning.

Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament and MP for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, expressed his condolences to Atsu’s family in a tweet on February 17, 2022, saying that the news of Atsu’s death was “terrible news!” (Ghanaweb, 2022).

Atsu was a former player for Newcastle United and was currently playing for the Turkish club, Hatayspor. It was Hatayspor who confirmed the news of Atsu’s death, which was also reported by the player’s two agents. The loss of Atsu has deeply affected the football world, and his contributions to the sport will be greatly missed.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has announced that plans are underway to transport Atsu’s body to Ghana for burial. This will allow Atsu’s family, friends, and fans to pay their final respects to the late footballer. The transportation of Atsu’s remains to his home country is a gesture that reflects the love and respect that Ghanaians have for the former football star.

The passing of Christian Atsu is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictability of natural disasters. Atsu’s talent, hard work, and dedication to the sport of football will be deeply missed by his family, friends, teammates, and fans.
